He leaves in 1963 to Eastern Bolivia for a stay 8 months which will last 3 years. Its research relates then to the Chiquitano people. After a short return in Germany, it goes back to Peru where he is Professor at the University of Lima then in Eastern Bolivia where he melts, in 1978, the APCOB (Apoyo Para el Campesino Indígena del Oriente Boliviano).  00:02:48
Presentation of Cultural and Linguistic Diversities of Bolivia  Bolivia presents itself, generally, like an Andean country, but more than 70% of the own territory is in the lowlands. There are approximately 34 different people identified like natives and who account for 75% of the total population. The 24% remainder are half-blood and a very small proportion are white or foreigners. The natives who live in the lowlands represent more than 300.000 inhabitants, distributed between a broad variety of linguistic and cultural diversities. Until the end of the XIXème century, the indigenous population was not very affected by the white people. But colonizations of this zone (lowland) in order to exploit the local resources like rubber, wood and oil reduced the vital space of the natives.  00:02:24
Description of the People living in the Bolivian Lowlands  The lowlands are divided into three ecological zones: - in the south, the arid region of large Chaco, - in north, the zone of transition from the East and - in the east, Amazonia with its two departments. The 32 people are distributed as follows: in the department of Santa Cruz we meet the majority of the natives of which - in large Chaco: Chiriguanos, Isosenos 70 000 which speaks the guarani, Chiquitanos in the East are 80 000, Guarayos also which speaks the guarani in western north about the East and two relatively small people Ayoreodes 5000 people and Sirionos with 1800 people. The large ethnic variety meets in Amazonia with small people which have a well marked territory and a quite particular development. Their economy is based primarily on agriculture and fishing. Why they is so many people in the lowlands? especially for historical reasons.  00:01:54
Chiquitanos History  We will speak more particularly about people of the department of Santa Cruz: the Chiquitanos. At the eighteenth century, the Jesuits founded the mission of the chiquitanos. Their objectives were the regrouping of the various people, the religious, civic and musical instruction. The first experiment of reductions "reducciones" was called San Francisco Javier. Then there were San Juan, San Raphael, Conception, San Miguel, Santa Anna, Santiago, San Ignazio, and finally Santo Corazon in 1760. Today Chiquitanos have a mixed culture, a mixture of the Western culture brought by the white people, the half-blood people and some remainders of their own culture.  00:09:07
Consequences of the Spanish Conquest  There exists much of writings on the indigenous culture but few things exist on the relations woven between the natives and the white at the time of the Spanish conquest. Before the arrival of Spanish, the American southern territory was populated by many people which had developed many manners of living. But as the arrival of Christophe Colomb, the life of much of these Indians changed radically. In particular by what is called the conquest by the sword and the cross. The white people obliged the natives to live in slavery, nothing was not undertaken to safeguard their local culture by those which were called "the barbarians". Many fights caused catastrophes for the natives. Many indigenous people completely disappeared. The natives of the low grounds were colonized later but underwent the same consequences. They had to undergo the system of the "encomiendas".  00:06:19
Relations with the Nonindigenous World  All the natives had slaveries relations with the conquerors. They were used as peones, servants for white and half-blood people. These conditions started to change in 1952 with the arrival with the MNR (revolutionary movement nationalist) which put an end to slavery. For as much the natives will continue to do inhuman work to survive.  00:02:22
Shamanism - Guarani Culture  The shamanism makes part of the people culture. Isoso Story " the Lord of the hills".  00:04:46
Origins of the woman - Guarani Culture  Narration on the origins of the women in the Guarani culture.  00:01:38

They have succeeds in putting in contact the whole of the indigenous people so that they can be recognized, that it are linked to obtain their freedom and that they assert their right.  00:02:35
Process of Change - The Great Walk  These steps of bringing together of the various communities, carried out by the CIDOB, have leads to the formation of the great walk of 1982. This symbolic walk carried out to the meeting the people of lowlands and the people of the high plateaus of Bolivia. The fight was done with arguments and not with weapons.  00:01:51
