Amantur Japarov is an ethnologist, the head of the Department of Archeology and Ethnology of the Institute of History of the National Sciences Academy of the Kyrgyz Republic. He is also the coordinator of the French Institute for Studies on Central Asia (IFEAC) in Bishkek. The main office of this institute is located in Tashkent. A.Japarov studied in 1980-85 at historical faculty of State University of Kyrgyzstan. After his graduation he worked in high school of Kyzyl Tu, in the region of Issyk Kul. In 1988, having passed competition, he became a scientific employee of Institute of History of the National Academy of Sciences of Kyrgyzstan. From 1997 till 2003, he worked as a scientist - secretary of the department of social studies of the National Science Academy of Kyrgyzstan. Since 2003, during half a year he held the post of director of Institute of History.
He investigates the problems of traditions of Kyrgyz nomadism and their social organization. He wrote and defended the dissertation in this theme, he gives lectures and seminars at universities, as well.
